Liposomal vs Standard Supplements: A Head-to-Head Comparison
You've probably seen the claims: liposomal formulations deliver superior bioavailability. But what does that actually mean in practice — and is the difference significant enough to matter?
The answer, for a specific and important class of compounds, is yes.
The Absorption Gauntlet
Before we compare formulations, it's worth understanding what every oral supplement faces on its journey from capsule to cell.
Stage 1 — Stomach acid: pH levels of 1.5–3.5 can denature proteins and break down many compounds before they even reach the small intestine.
Stage 2 — Digestive enzymes: Proteases, lipases, and other enzymes continue the breakdown process throughout the GI tract.
Stage 3 — Intestinal wall: Only compounds that can cross the intestinal epithelium enter the bloodstream.
Stage 4 — First-pass liver metabolism: Compounds absorbed through the gut pass through the liver before reaching systemic circulation.
How Liposomal Formulations Bypass the Gauntlet
Liposomes protect their payload through stages 1 and 2 by encapsulating the active compound within a bilayer membrane that resists acid and enzymatic degradation.
At stage 3, the phospholipid structure facilitates direct fusion with intestinal cell membranes, enabling intracellular delivery that bypasses normal absorption barriers.
Key Compounds: The Research
Glutathione — Almost entirely broken down in standard oral form. Liposomal glutathione achieves meaningfully higher plasma concentrations and measurable increases in cellular glutathione levels.
Vitamin C — Absorption efficiency drops sharply at higher doses due to saturation of intestinal transporters. Liposomal vitamin C bypasses this pathway, enabling higher plasma concentrations.
NMN — Liposomal formulations demonstrate enhanced cellular uptake and more sustained plasma levels — relevant for consistent NAD+ elevation.
Curcumin — Notoriously poorly absorbed in standard form. Liposomal curcumin has demonstrated substantially higher bioavailability — in some studies, more than tenfold improvement.
The Allfather Approach
Our 2027 liposomal range applies this technology where the evidence says it makes a meaningful difference. Every compound has been selected because the delivery mechanism materially improves its efficacy.
